We drove up to White Pass Sunday after
church to take pictures of the ice sculptures featured during their ice
festival. The festivities were over and most of the sculptures gone,
except for the castle. On the way home, we saw some ice fishermen...in WA that word is illegal now...we have to say "fishers"! They looked like they were having a party on Dog Lake. The falls were all frozen. Pictured below is Clear Lake from the road coming down from White Pass.
That first week in March was unseasonably warm...we lost a lot of snow! On our way to Yakima one week, we stopped to take the picture below...the water was like a mirror...the reflection of the mountains was breathtaking! One of Carol's jobs for the past 18 months has been opening and closing the gate for the driver (Chuck)! We always get beautiful ice cycles in the early spring when the snow is melting!
The next weekend in March, Melissa's family came to celebrate her birthday, and to go sledding. Chuck got in on the fun! Nathan helped to take the girls down. Miriam couldn't get enough, while Eliza was happy to play in the snow; however, she did go down with Melissa at the end of the day.
Mark and Andrew had a great time together! Part of the day, the two older boys went with their Dad to a "bowl" near Dog Lake...they thought it was a bit more of a challenge. Cabin One Hill is fun though! Matthew liked taking the jump.
Pictured below is "our Harry". He comes with his family to Cabin One for free when we have computer issues. He is always a lot of fun to visit with.
We had a Mission Conference March 27. We stayed with Dareld and Lynn Lookabil the night before. We attended a training meeting in the morning, went to a session at the Temple, and then had a delicious lunch. Our Mission President spoke of an "Elder Heckert" during his part of the training...how he had played a part, as his stake president, getting a waiver from Salt Lake for him to go on a mission to Texas when he was 25...and what a Power House he was!...and then he fell off the wagon when he got home. He married a non-member, and now he is seeking a divorce. He recently sought out President Greer for a blessing...wanting to come back to God and to the church. We knew him as a little boy when his brother Randy was dating Melissa. Long story short...he came home to Zarahemla with us. Chuck stayed up half the night talking to him. The next day, Chris flew him down to Salt Lake, introduced him to Vivant, and signed him on. It is amazing what lengths God will go to when it comes to rescuing His children, when they turn around, and reach out to Him.
After Stephen Heckert left, we made ready for a fun Easter weekend with Rusty and Bob. They stayed in one of our cabins. Whenever they come, we have so much fun...listening to Bob's stories and sharing our view of the world, and the end of times with Rusty. While we were sitting around visiting with Rusty one morning...Chuck was intrigued with the pictured butterfly. What a blessing it has been to live in the wilderness these many months! Bob and Rusty stayed in our guest room and took care of the camp their last night here...we took off for Utah to go to Tony's and Megan's wedding.
